The team survived a scorcher at Thunderhill Raceway the weekend of May 25 & 26 with temperatures approaching triple digits for this rare, two points-race weekend. Results were not as the Life’s Good Racing!TM teamwould have liked, however they were adequate to maintain current season points positions in Touring Car for both Karl Chicca in the #12 M3 and Mario Lento in the #10 Mitsubishi.
The Saturday late afternoon race started with “The Mario” outside front row in The #10 Mitsubishi with Karl in P3 in the #12 M3 and Michael Welden in P4 in the #21 Lexus… a great show of Team Life’s Good Racing!TM colors at the front of the field for the drop of the green flag.
The field immediately became very crowded with multi-class racing as the faster Super Unlimited and German Touring cars started immediately behind the USTCC contingent, thus making for some interesting sharing of the track going into turn 2. The class of the field were definitely “The Mario” and one other driver, the two of whom battled throughout the race and all the way up to the second of the last corner of the race, Turn 14. Coming out of the “esses”, the Mario and the race leader split sides of a slower class car which unfortunately did not see the very fast #10 Mitsubishi coming up on his right, edging The Mario off track. Unfortunately, what ensued was contact between the slower car and the Mitsubishi, taking both cars out of the running. This made way for Karl in the #12 M3 to snatch up a third place and Michael Welden a fourth.
